BEYOND EARTH | Chapter 01
Hughes Biotech’s RenoFlavone™ Selected for Delta Biosciences’ Space Healthcare Mission
From breakroughs in microbial biotransformation to space healthcare research, exploring new frontiers in radiation protection, precision health, and longevity science.
A New Chapter in International Scientific Collaboration
Hughes Biotechnology is proud to announce a new milestone in space healthcare research through its international scientific collaboration with Delta Biosciences, a Lithuania-based company advancing life science innovations and space medicine research. Hughes Biotechnology’s proprietary RenoFlavone™ soy polyphenol genistein postbiotic has been selected to contribute to the pioneering compound degradation mission, conducted by Delta Biosciences in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
Following the successful integration of the experimental payload and completion of the required safety and verification reviews at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), the experiment has been transferred to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida in preparation for its planned launch to the International Space Station (ISS). This milestone marks an exciting step in bringing Taiwan-developed biotransformation innovation beyond conventional nutritional applications and into the emerging field of space healthcare research.

Why Polyphenols Matter in Space Health Research?
Polyphenols are widely recognized for their antioxidant properties and have demonstrated promising radioprotective potential in scientific research. As part of a first-of-its-kind ISS experiment investigating the effects of space radiation on 134 research compounds, including nutraceuticals, RenoFlavone™ will be studied under extreme space conditions. This offers Hughes Biotechnology a unique opportunity to explore the molecular stability of its innovative polyphenol postbiotic ingredient and its potential in future space healthcare research.
For Hughes Biotechnology, RenoFlavone™’s selection marks an important milestone for its proprietary RenoSorb™ fermentation technology, opening new possibilities beyond conventional nutritional applications and into advanced space healthcare research. This mission begins with RenoFlavone™, a fermented soy isoflavone posbiotic ingredient featuring highly bioavailable genistein derivatives developed through its RenoSorb™ microbial biotransformation technology. Its participation also inspires us to explore the broader scientific potential of our polyphenol postbiotic ingredient portfolio in precision health and beyond.
Space Research, Radiation Protection, and Longevity Science
RenoFlavone™ brings Hughes Biotechnology’s expertise in science-driven nutraceutical innovation and highly bioavailable polyphenol postbiotics into the frontier of space healthcare research. As scientific exploration advances toward long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars, this milestone highlights the potential of innovative nutraceutical ingredients in addressing radiation-related health challenges and advancing longevity science — a direction that resonates with NASA’s Precision Health research on aging and disease.
From Space to Earth — Advancing Health Beyond Boundaries
The significance of radiation-related research extends far beyond astronauts. Scientific advances in this field could help inform future health protection strategies for rescue teams and aerospace crews working in extreme environments, while also offering valuable insights for research relevant to patients undergoing radiotherapy.
This dual-use vision — advancing health science and innovation for both Earth and space — opens a new frontier where novel polyphenolic bioactives, breakthrough bioavailability-enhancing technology, and advanced healthcare research converge. For Hughes Biotechnology, this collaboration represents a meaningful step toward expanding the scientific horizons of its RenoSorb™ biotransformation platform and bringing polyphenol postbiotic innovation into the international space healthcare research landscape.
Beyond Earth — The Journey Continues
When we first developed RenoSorb™ technology to overcome the limitations of oral bioavailability of polyphenolic compounds, we never imagined it would one day open the door to space healthcare research. Seeing years of dedicated research reach this new frontier is a meaningful milestone for Hughes Biotechnology and a proud moment for our team. Perhaps, borrowing a little inspiration from humanity’s first steps on the Moon, we can dare to dream of “One small step for Hughes, one giant leap for mankind.”
But what made RenoFlavone™ stand out and become part of this extraordinary mission? And how did RenoSorb™ technology offer a new possibility for a challenging scientific question?
There is an intriguing story behind it — and this is only the first chapter.
We look forward to the launch, the discoveries ahead, and the new possibilities this journey may bring to human health.
